Standard 6

"If you can imagine it, You can achieve it. If you can dream it, You can become it."

--William Arthur Ward

Instructional Specialists exhibit a high degree of professionalism.

Artifact #1 - Membership in professional organizations.
I believe in being actively involved in professional organizations.  I currently serve as an elected officer for WATESOL.  In addition, I'm currently the MCEA representative for my location (Century 21).

Artifacts #2, #3, and #4 - Co-Chair for WATESOL's Secondary Interest Group
As Co-Chair I have many responsibilities during both the Fall and Spring conferences.  In addition, I'm responsible for updates to our membership through articles in the WATESOL Newsletter.

As an officer for the WATESOL Secondary Interest Group I also work to build the capacity of other teachers.  At the most recent Spring 2005 SIG convention, which I organized, all of the presenters were MCPS employees.  In addition, the newsletter submission for our SIG came from an MCPS employee.  This teacher then thanked me for helping with the editing of the article.

Afie,
Thank you so much for the edited article!

Artifact #5 - Educational Honor Society
I've been a member since my graduate program at American University.  Membership in this honor society is based on an A average GPA.

Reflection
These artifacts support my professionalism within the field of education.  These memberships are to organizations that are important to ESOL, Professional Development, or the field of education on a large scale.
